{"id":"she-ra-reboot-controversy","name":"She-Ra Reboot Controversy","summary":"The She-Ra Reboot Controversy was a 2018 online argument over the redesigned lead character in Netflix and DreamWorks' She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, with critics calling the new Adora too muscular, too boyish, or too 'CalArts' compared to the 1985 original. The backlash and counter-backlash bounced between YouTube, Twitter and mainstream outlets, becoming an early flashpoint in the debate over how female cartoon characters get modernized for streaming reboots.","tags":["she-ra reboot controversy","she-ra redesign","netflix she-ra","noelle stevenson","princesses of power","calarts style","cartoon reboot backlash"],"howToUse":[],"imageCount":7,"nsfw":false,"images":[{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/she-ra-reboot-controversy/she-ra-reboot-controversy-she-ra-netflix-reboot-design.webp","caption":"Promotional art of She-Ra from the 2018 Netflix animated reboot 'She-Ra and the Princesses of Power,' whose character redesign sparked online controversy.","width":825,"height":464,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/she-ra-reboot-controversy/she-ra-reboot-controversy-imaconsumer-tweet-criticism.webp","caption":"A viral tweet criticizing the reboot's redesign as making the character 'look like a boy,' representative of the backlash against the show.","width":588,"height":573,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/she-ra-reboot-controversy/she-ra-reboot-controversy-nostalgic-jerk-fan-art.webp","caption":"Fan artwork defending the reboot, mocking critics as nostalgic detractors unable to appreciate new cartoons.","width":680,"height":481,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/she-ra-reboot-controversy/she-ra-reboot-controversy-4chan-anime-redesign-thread.webp","caption":"A 4chan post presenting anime-style fan redesigns of the She-Ra cast under the caption 'What if the She-Ra reboot was good?'","width":1905,"height":933,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/she-ra-reboot-controversy/she-ra-reboot-controversy-double-d-facts-book-meme.webp","caption":"A 'Double D Facts Book' meme voicing the view that criticism of the She-Ra reboot isn't inherently bigoted.","width":500,"height":667,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/she-ra-reboot-controversy/she-ra-reboot-controversy-dreamworks-facebook-design-reaction.webp","caption":"A DreamWorks promo screenshot featuring alternative-style character art, with a viewer reaction criticizing the show's official designs.","width":875,"height":908,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/she-ra-reboot-controversy/she-ra-reboot-controversy-straczynski-twitter-thread.webp","caption":"Original She-Ra co-creator J.
