{"id":"neknominate","name":"Neknominate","summary":"Neknominate, also known as Neck and Nominate, was a viral drinking game where participants filmed themselves chugging alcohol in extreme ways and then called out friends to top them within 24 hours. The chain-nomination format traces back to British university slang around 2008, got a homegrown Australian rewrite in the early 2010s, and exploded across Facebook in January 2014. Within weeks it turned deadly, spawned kindness-based parodies, and burned out just as fast as it started.","tags":["neknominate","neck and nominate","drinking game","facebook challenge","viral challenge","2014 meme","stephen brookes","raknomination"],"howToUse":[],"imageCount":5,"nsfw":false,"images":[{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/neknominate/neknominate-nicnomination-furious-cage-post.webp","caption":"Emily Stockton's NicNomination post replaces the traditional NekNominate drinking stunt with an image of an enraged Nicolas Cage, part of the meme's viral parody offshoot.","width":435,"height":507,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/neknominate/neknominate-neknominate-victim-portrait.webp","caption":"News media widely circulated portraits of young men who died after taking part in NekNominate stunts, contributing to public backlash against the trend.","width":615,"height":410,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/neknominate/neknominate-neknominate-news-portrait.webp","caption":"Press coverage of NekNominate frequently featured photographs of young participants whose deaths were attributed to the challenge, fuelling calls to ban the game.","width":620,"height":465,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/neknominate/neknominate-neknominate-mirror-selfie.webp","caption":"Selfies of young men who died after taking part in NekNominate dares became emblematic of the media backlash against the viral drinking challenge.","width":615,"height":409,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/neknominate/neknominate-neknominate-live-animal-stunt.webp","caption":"Participants escalated NekNominate dares by involving live animals, one of many shock tactics that drew widespread condemnation of the challenge.","width":615,"height":409,"nsfw":false}],"historyUrl":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/neknominate/history.md","related":["devious-lick","24-hour-fort-challenge","ice-cream-challenge","fire-challenge","bird-box-challenge","tide-pod-challenge","galaxy-gas-whippets","kia-challenge","blue-whale-challenge","devious-licks-trend","airplane-toilet-licking-video","bleach-drinking"],"popularityRank":3118,"license":"Meme images and history: templates, screenshots, photos and fan edits, many of copyrighted material or real people.
