{"id":"mariah-carey-new-years-eve-performance-fail","name":"Mariah Carey New Year's Eve Performance FAIL","summary":"On December 31, 2016, Mariah Carey's Times Square performance at Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve fell apart when her in-ear monitors failed during 'Emotions' and 'We Belong Together,' leaving her pacing the stage while backing vocals played without her. The awkward footage spawned one of the defining meme moments of early 2017, and a redemption appearance a year later produced a second viral cycle known as the 'hot tea' meme.","tags":["mariah carey new years eve fail","mariah carey 2016 nye","dick clark rockin eve mariah","mariah carey hot tea meme","mariah carey emotions performance","new years eve meme","lip sync fail","shit happens tweet"],"howToUse":[],"imageCount":8,"nsfw":false,"images":[{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/mariah-carey-new-years-eve-performance-fail/mariah-carey-new-years-eve-performance-fail-mariah-carey-nye-performance.webp","caption":"Mariah Carey during her infamous New Year's Eve 2016/2017 performance in Times Square.","width":534,"height":456,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/mariah-carey-new-years-eve-performance-fail/mariah-carey-new-years-eve-performance-fail-found-my-tea-tweet.webp","caption":"Mariah Carey's 'Found my tea!' tweet, which spawned a follow-up meme about her hot tea request.","width":680,"height":801,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/mariah-carey-new-years-eve-performance-fail/mariah-carey-new-years-eve-performance-fail-milmiskew-hot-tea-tweet.webp","caption":"Another viral tweet celebrating Mariah Carey's hot tea moment as 2018's first meme.","width":680,"height":531,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/mariah-carey-new-years-eve-performance-fail/mariah-carey-new-years-eve-performance-fail-i-dont-know-her-meme.webp","caption":"A meme playing on Mariah Carey's iconic 'I don't know her' line in reference to her own performance.","width":596,"height":575,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/mariah-carey-new-years-eve-performance-fail/mariah-carey-new-years-eve-performance-fail-russians-hacked-sound-system.webp","caption":"A meme joking that the botched performance was caused by Russian hackers.","width":593,"height":590,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/mariah-carey-new-years-eve-performance-fail/mariah-carey-new-years-eve-performance-fail-performance-2016-deserved.webp","caption":"A popular reaction meme framing the failed performance as a fitting end to 2016.","width":591,"height":595,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/mariah-carey-new-years-eve-performance-fail/mariah-carey-new-years-eve-performance-fail-milton-2017-reaction-meme.webp","caption":"An Office Space Milton reaction meme about Mariah Carey's New Year's Eve performance.","width":1000,"height":676,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/mariah-carey-new-years-eve-performance-fail/mariah-carey-new-years-eve-performance-fail-social-01.webp","caption":"Mariah Carey New Year's Eve Performance FAIL","width":900,"height":1200,"nsfw":false}],"historyUrl":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/mariah-carey-new-years-eve-performance-fail/history.md","related":["harvey-weinstein-sexual-harassment-allegations","fyre-festival","england-is-my-city","cuphead","curb-your-enthusiasm","jake-paul","willy-wonka-experience","tokyo-drift-in-a-barbie-car","afro-ninja","epic-fail-guy","fail-epic-fail","fell-down-the-apple-stairs"],"popularityRank":2390,"license":"Meme images and history: templates, screenshots, photos and fan edits, many of copyrighted material or real people.
