{"id":"kim-jong-il-looking-at-things","name":"Kim Jong Il Looking At Things","summary":"Kim Jong Il Looking At Things is a photo blog project that collected official North Korean state propaganda images of the late dictator inspecting factories, farms, and consumer goods with a fixed, unreadable stare. Launched on Tumblr in October 2010 by a Portuguese art director, the deadpan repetition of the format turned regime propaganda into one of the defining single-topic blog memes of the early 2010s.","tags":["kim jong il looking at things","kim jong il meme","tumblr single topic blog","north korea meme","joão rocha","on the spot guidance"],"howToUse":[],"imageCount":5,"nsfw":false,"images":[{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/kim-jong-il-looking-at-things/kim-jong-il-looking-at-things-original-tumblr-blog-screenshot.webp","caption":"Screenshot of the original Tumblr blog 'Kim Jong-il Looking at Things' that launched the meme in 2010.","width":474,"height":440,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/kim-jong-il-looking-at-things/kim-jong-il-looking-at-things-kim-jong-il-cutout-template.webp","caption":"A transparent-background cutout of Kim Jong-il in a wall hatch, commonly used as a meme template to insert him into other scenes.","width":500,"height":413,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/kim-jong-il-looking-at-things/kim-jong-il-looking-at-things-kim-jong-il-car-window-photoshop.webp","caption":"A photoshopped meme variant placing Kim Jong-il's face onto a shirtless figure leaning into a car window, a humorous remix of the 'looking at things' motif.","width":800,"height":600,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/kim-jong-il-looking-at-things/kim-jong-il-looking-at-things-kim-jong-il-watching-obama.webp","caption":"A photoshopped mashup inserting the 'Kim Jong-il in a wall hatch' cutout behind President Obama during a White House address.","width":900,"height":600,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/kim-jong-il-looking-at-things/kim-jong-il-looking-at-things-north-korean-newspaper-tribute.webp","caption":"A commemorative page from a North Korean state newspaper honoring Kim Jong-il, published shortly after his death in December 2011.","width":709,"height":554,"nsfw":false}],"historyUrl":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/kim-jong-il-looking-at-things/history.md","related":["stock-photo-cliches","cats-wearing-tights","brides-throwing-cats","texts-from-hillary","cursed-images","vibe-check","zombocom","look-at-this-fucking-hipster","moustair","paying-bills-with-spider-drawings-seven-legged-spider","leekspin","real-ultimate-power"],"popularityRank":3114,"license":"Meme images and history: templates, screenshots, photos and fan edits, many of copyrighted material or real people.
