{"id":"expand-dong","name":"Expand Dong","summary":"Expand Dong is a Photoshop meme built around a cropped image of Donkey Kong's face paired with the words \"Expand\" and \"Dong\" cut from the Donkey Kong 64 box art. It first appeared on 4chan's /v/ board in late 2012 and blew up on Tumblr throughout 2013[1]. The format inspired a wave of similar edits using other video game characters and box art, where letters are rearranged to spell out crude or absurd phrases[3].","tags":["expand dong","double meaning","reaction","humor","innuendo"],"howToUse":["Find a video game box art or any image with visible text.","Crop the character's face into a close-up, ideally with a staring or suggestive expression.","Cut out individual letters or words from the source image's text.","Rearrange those letters to spell something crude, absurd, or nonsensical.","Place the rearranged text below the character's face."],"imageCount":14,"nsfw":false,"images":[{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/expand-dong/expand-dong-quest-yellow.webp","caption":"Meme combining words from different game titles creatively.","width":680,"height":782,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/expand-dong/expand-dong-definitive-meme.webp","caption":"The definitive and most iconic Expand Dong meme from 2012.","width":250,"height":250,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/expand-dong/expand-dong-donkey-kong-grin.webp","caption":"One of the most recognizable versions of the meme format.","width":383,"height":750,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/expand-dong/expand-dong-candy-kong-variation.webp","caption":"Variation applying letter-scrambling to different Donkey Kong character.","width":564,"height":776,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/expand-dong/expand-dong-diddy-kong-feature.webp","caption":"Meme expansion to other characters in the Donkey Kong franchise.","width":234,"height":347,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/expand-dong/expand-dong-kingdom-fierce.webp","caption":"Creative rearrangement of game title text to create crude phrases.","width":600,"height":960,"nsfw":true},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/expand-dong/expand-dong-country-3d-expanded.webp","caption":"Expanded meme format with additional rearranged words and 3D rendering.","width":358,"height":668,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/expand-dong/expand-dong-donkey-kong-64-box.webp","caption":"The foundational source material from which the meme emerged in 2012.","width":620,"height":428,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/expand-dong/expand-dong-erect-penis-retro.webp","caption":"Crude humor exemplified through creative letter rearrangement.","width":260,"height":419,"nsfw":true},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/expand-dong/expand-dong-dick-freeze-gold.webp","caption":"Meme format creating crude phrases from game art rearranged letters.","width":241,"height":360,"nsfw":true},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/expand-dong/expand-dong-menacing-monster.webp","caption":"","width":null,"height":null,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/expand-dong/expand-dong-canonical-grin.webp","caption":"","width":null,"height":null,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/expand-dong/expand-dong-sonic-hedgehog-rearranged.webp","caption":"","width":null,"height":null,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/expand-dong/expand-dong-country-3d-scene.webp","caption":"","width":null,"height":null,"nsfw":false}],"historyUrl":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/expand-dong/history.md","related":["bogdanoff-twins","newfags-cant-triforce","4chan-drinking-game-cards","a-fucking-leaf","dumbledore-posting","good-luck-im-behind-7-proxies","not-your-personal-army","post-ending-in-x","the-soviet-liberator-le-liberator-face","this-poster-is-a-skeleton","4chan-party-van","an-hero"],"popularityRank":3577,"license":"Meme images and history: templates, screenshots, photos and fan edits, many of copyrighted material or real people.
