{"id":"cancel-button-location","name":"Cancel Button Location","summary":"Cancel Button Location is an internet meme and ongoing source of collective frustration centered on the deliberately confusing placement of cancel and unsubscribe buttons in software interfaces. The meme took off in the late 2010s as subscription-based services made it increasingly difficult to cancel accounts, with users sharing screenshots of absurd multi-step cancellation flows and hidden buttons across Reddit, Twitter, and other platforms[1]. It sits at the intersection of UX design critique and internet humor, turning a shared consumer grievance into a recognizable format.","tags":["cancel-button-location"],"howToUse":["**Screenshot + caption:** Take a screenshot of a real cancellation flow where the cancel button is hard to find, then post it with commentary pointing out the absurdity.","**Comparison format:** Place the large, brightly colored \"Stay Subscribed\" button next to the tiny, hidden \"Cancel\" option to highlight the contrast.","**Satirical mockup:** Design an exaggerated fake cancel flow that parodies real dark patterns, often including impossible-to-complete steps.","**Multi-image series:** Document an entire cancellation journey step by step, showing how many screens it takes to actually cancel."],"imageCount":2,"nsfw":false,"images":[{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/cancel-button-location/cancel-button-location-template.webp","caption":"The iconic Cancel Button Location meme template.","width":600,"height":446,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/cancel-button-location/2026-08-31_1788206072365.webp","caption":"The cancel button location meme satirizes dark patterns in subscription cancellation flows","width":165,"height":250,"nsfw":false}],"historyUrl":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/cancel-button-location/history.md","related":["authenticator-app-lost","alexa-wrong-command","algorithm-complaint","app-permission-request","bluetooth-connection-issue","buffering-video","absurdist-humor","baseball-stat-nerd"],"popularityRank":943,"license":"Meme images and history: templates, screenshots, photos and fan edits, many of copyrighted material or real people.
