{"id":"boaty-mcboatface","name":"Boaty Mcboatface","summary":"Boaty McBoatface is the joke name proposed in a 2016 UK government online poll to christen a new polar research vessel, which won by a landslide before officials overruled the vote. The name spawned an ongoing 'X-y McXface' template applied to trains, horses, ferries, and schools, while the winning name was eventually handed to a small robotic submarine aboard the same ship.","tags":["boaty mcboatface","nerc poll","rrs sir david attenborough","james hand","horsey mchorseface","ferry mcferryface","internet naming meme","british memes"],"howToUse":[],"imageCount":5,"nsfw":false,"images":[{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/boaty-mcboatface/boaty-mcboatface-boaty-mcboatface-antarctic-render.webp","caption":"Artist's rendering of the NERC research vessel with its crowdsourced name 'Boaty McBoatface' in Antarctic waters.","width":680,"height":522,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/boaty-mcboatface/boaty-mcboatface-mister-splashy-pants-poll.webp","caption":"The 2007 Greenpeace whale-naming poll where 'Mister Splashy Pants' dominated — a precedent for internet-driven naming polls like Boaty McBoatface.","width":432,"height":423,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/boaty-mcboatface/boaty-mcboatface-hooty-mcowlface-zoo-sign.webp","caption":"A zoo enclosure sign showing 'Hooty McOwlface' — one of many McBoatface-inspired parody names to emerge in the wake of the meme.","width":680,"height":1136,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/boaty-mcboatface/boaty-mcboatface-trainy-mctrainface-display.webp","caption":"A train sign reading 'Trainy McTrainface' — a Swedish rail-naming spinoff that carried the McBoatface joke to public transit.","width":600,"height":800,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/boaty-mcboatface/boaty-mcboatface-schoolie-mcschoolface-fox7.webp","caption":"A Fox 7 news segment listing 'Schoolie McSchoolface' among nominations to rename Robert E.
