{"id":"bathroom-shrines","name":"Bathroom Shrines","summary":"Bathroom Shrines is a 2018 trend of improvised devotional shrines to celebrities hidden in school bathrooms, sparked when SUNY Purchase student Phillip Hosang's Danny DeVito shrine went viral on Twitter.","tags":[],"howToUse":["**Find your spot.** The best shrines are hidden or at least semi-concealed. Broken dispensers, utility closets, and out-of-the-way bathroom corners all work. Part of the appeal is the discovery factor.","**Pick your subject.** The person or character should be someone people feel weirdly devoted to. Danny DeVito, Harry Styles, and Hatsune Miku all fit the \"ironic worship\" vibe. The more absurd the choice for a bathroom setting, the better.","**Set up the shrine.** A printed photo or small cutout is the centerpiece. Add a handwritten note inviting offerings. Some creators add candles (usually fake) or decorative elements.","**Let it grow.** The communal aspect is key. Other people discovering the shrine and adding their own offerings, notes, and tributes is what makes it a living meme rather than just a prank.","**Document and share.** The reveal video, usually someone opening a dispenser or crawling through a wall to find the shrine, is the shareable moment. TikTok and Twitter are the standard platforms."],"imageCount":7,"nsfw":false,"images":[{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/bathroom-shrines/bathroom-shrines-miku-primary.webp","caption":"The primary Miku shrine image.","width":800,"height":450,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/bathroom-shrines/bathroom-shrines-danny-devito-iconic.webp","caption":"The iconic origin shrine.","width":680,"height":907,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/bathroom-shrines/bathroom-shrines-hidden-paper-towel.webp","caption":"Multi-angle shrine documentation.","width":680,"height":615,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/bathroom-shrines/bathroom-shrines-danny-devito-response.webp","caption":"Celebrity shrine approval.","width":680,"height":787,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/bathroom-shrines/bathroom-shrines-corner-art.webp","caption":"Community artistic embellishment.","width":680,"height":907,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/bathroom-shrines/bathroom-shrines-danny-devito-twitter.webp","caption":"The viral origin moment.","width":577,"height":752,"nsfw":false},{"url":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/bathroom-shrines/bathroom-shrines-miku-official-corner.webp","caption":"Anime character shrine variant.","width":680,"height":669,"nsfw":false}],"historyUrl":"https://fcdtoybbbn2ccxbp.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/images/bathroom-shrines/history.md","related":["commencement-speeches","high-school-senior-yearbook-photos","rice-purity-test","college-freshman","lazy-college-senior","lily-lang-sec-burnerverse-trolling","trigglypuff","the-wikipedia-game","you-should-be-studying","asians-in-the-library","retarded-rowdy","dark-academia"],"popularityRank":3350,"license":"Meme images and history: templates, screenshots, photos and fan edits, many of copyrighted material or real people.
